Cat sketch.

Everyone loves cats, apart from those who don't but they don't count!

I was thinking about a children's book I'm writing and was thinking I'd in particular "I'd better get used to drawing cats" seen as though a cat plays an integral part in the story.

I do like the sketchy look to the picture. By the way, the cat is not going to be blue in the story :)

Commissioned to paint

 I've been commissioned to paint three canvases for a client for a music room. Each of the canvases are 60x40 inches and two ( in partrait ) will match with a conductor and musical instroments where as the other ( landscape ) needs to be of a music shelf and record players with musical notes.
So far these sketches are as far as I have got.

I have a feeling that this is going to get intersting!

Book Launch

I've just been around local area giving out these posters in the hopes of rasing interest in the book launch I'm doing at a local cafe.

While doing this, someone asked if maybe I'd like to do a workshop!
Heck, I'll give that a go. It's all free buplicity I guess.

I've been trying to think what I could do at this launch and the only thing I can think of is sitting there, desplaying some of the original sketches and showing off my first draft with it's messy Dyslexic hand writing.

Free kindle promotion

I'm doing a free kindle promotion of My children's book Denall's Adventure That starts from

Gitting an ISBN

I've been trying to get info on obtaining an ISBN number for my children's book.

Now I'm not sure it's because I'm Dyslexic or that the information is just that hard to find but I couldn't get a search engine to give me the answer I needed.

So I made a made an enquiry at the British Library.
This was their response.

Woot!

I hope that woot wasn't premature.

swallowtail butterfly

After a 5 hour (one way) trip and a few days in Norflok I finally found what I was looking for.

Swallowtail Butterflies!  They're hard to find, even if you do know where they might be.

Being butterflies they are cold blooded and so need the sun to warm up.

They are well worth looking for though.

Donated

I've just dropped off some of my photographs to Creative support (learning disabilities and mental health support and housing). I'm donating them for a raffle they are having at their summer event this month.

The Photographs are of local sites in the northeast like this one of Saltburn.

Promoting a children's book

I have been talking to a local cafe owner and we have put our heads together to drum up business for us both.
I'm going to have a book launch at her cafe!

What a great idea. Helping out a local business and getting help in return :) .

The problem is though, finding somewhere to print out cheep promotional stuff such as fryers and posters etc.

I've used Printed.com for cards and I did not like the quality of their finished product and vista print charge a fortune for delivery if you want your stuff quickly.
I'm looking at instant print at the moment and they seem ok so far and appear reasonable.

I'm thinking of having the book launch on the 27th of July so I need quick delivery.

cat drawing - concept art for a children's book

I'm writing several children's books at the moment. One of which is called (and at present this is a working title) Milly and the magic cat.

It's about a girl who, one day, converses with a talking cat on her fence and an odd chain of events spring from this.

Here is a video of a sketch of the cat I put on you tube. It's in the concept stages at the moment so who knows how it will end up.

My first book is on sale at the Kindle store, on Etsy and in the Nunthorpe cafe and Guisborough books shop.

Invader Zim picture

Wow! I just found a copy of a picture I did for a friend years ago.

It's of a cartoon character called Gur from Invader Zim. A creation of Jhonen Vasquez which is pretty tame in comparison to his graphic novels/comics.

Done in water colour. Not sure what paper was used though.

Gur is a robot in a dog suit by the way.

Up on the wall

~Face your Demons~

It's hard giving up a picture you've painted. spent hours on.
I did this piece for a Creative Support Project.

It was a real learnng experience as I've never painted something so big.
Looking at it though in on the wall where it was hung though was good.

wildlife trust - volenteering

I'm off on this sunny Monday from work and to Hardwick Dene (cornforth close. T19 8PZ) to do some voluntary work for the Wildlife Trust.

I'm expecting to be digging around paths and clearing overgrown areas. You know that sort of thing.
On a day like this I'd usually be out with my camera but I'm looking forward to doing something more group orientated today as walking out with your camera taking pictures can be fun but is also not very social.
Then again this may not be ether  :) .

I've come back from my day volunteering. from 10:15am til 3:00pm.
We were digging a path and then putting down slag (tiny bits of what is a little like stones)
It's amazing how long it takes to do what looks like a small amount of path.

There were only three of us though.

I'm looking forward to doing this again.
